George

George is South Africa's gateway to the inland areas on the Garden Route. Named after the reigning British monarch at the time (King George III), George is undoubtedly

the most important town on the Garden Route of Western Cape Province. The Montaugu Pass and Outeniqua Pass are two mountain passes that offer exquisite views of the area, leading to inland Africa.

Wilderness is a small seaside town located approximately 30 km to the east of George. The town is renowned for its scenic beauty. The Wilderness Lakes Area consists of five lakes and makes an ideal spot for bird-waters and lover of water sports. In addition, Dolphin Point is known as the best viewpoint that offers a significant view of the Indian Ocean from the Kaaimans River. Due to the color of the water, local residents jokingly refer to the river as "Coke River"; the aboriginal people living in the area believe the water to have curing effects. The Kaiimans River Bridge is located at the estuary and the tracks of "Outeniqua Choo Tjoe" passes by the bridge.
The Outeniqua Choo Tjoe is the last remaining continually operated passenger steam train in Africa. The railway was completed to connect George to Knysna in Western Cape Province. The service takes passenger reservations despite the fact that it was primarily used for the transportation of logs and other cargoes. The scenic route of Outeniqua Choo Tjoe offers breathtaking views, which make it the main attraction for tourists.
